The Diet!
In my life I have gone on three serious diets. One was Weight Watchers where I lost 74 pounds. The other, Nutrisystem losing 88 pounds.
The last one, Simply For Life (SLF) I lost 69 pounds. My weight has always been a problem for me. I carry it ALL in my big belly. The rest of me isn’t out of proportion. Jason on the other hand is shorter than me, a bit of a fireplug. He has very large legs and calves, and he too developed a large belly. I am Type II diabetic and we both have high blood pressure. When we went on the SFL diet last time, we were walking about 3 kilometers two or three times a week. After losing the weight, I was totally off all my meds! I thought I could do it on my own and not bother with Maintenance. I was wrong! It was so easy to slip back into old habits and eat junk. Jasons problem is willpower when it comes to sweets and especially chocolate. Last time with SFL, we’d go for our weekly weigh in and then go out to eat. That was our “cheat” day. But that ended up being two days, which lead us back into bad habits. Our Consultant Neil was very patient with us. But last fall, when I wanted to go back on the diet, Jason hadn’t been losing much and even gained some weeks. Neil suggested we needed to take some time away from it and decide if we really wanted to seriously do this. We went through the fall and Christmas and over did it big time. Now, we’re both very uncomfortable and its an effort to do much. So, SFL agreed to take us back and we had our first weigh in on Monday, January 18, 2010. I weighed 276.6 pounds and Jason was 314.6.Yeah I know. BIG!
We thought if we “went public” and posted our photos and weight on here, and basically kept an on-line diary of our progress, it would help us with this journey. So… being the shy guy, and very self conscious of how he looks at his current weight, Jason would only allow me to post a face shot. Me… not so proud of it, but I posted a front and side shot showing my big belly.
We have to do this or we’ll both end up handicapped or even worse… dead.
Click here to see our progress photos. We’ll update them occasionally, not after every 10 pounds! Wish us luck!
