Jason’s Dad
We got a phone call at 3:30am Thursday morning from Jason’s brother saying that their Dad had suffered a heart attack and had been flown from Labrador to St. Anthony, NL hospital. Later that morning, Jason spoke with his Mom and was told his Dad was doing ok but they were flying him to St. John’s. Jason said he would fly over and meet her there and spend a week.
I called and booked a flight for Jason to St. John’s. A car rental is impossible in Newfoundland during the summer. Everything is booked by May. Jason tried to call home to get an update a few times but could never reach anyone. He tried his Mom in the “Quiet Room” at the hospital and she wasn’t there. So he was all set to fly out Friday morning.
Thursday night, since he still couldn’t get in touch with anyone to see where his Dad was, he called the Health Sciences Centre in St. John’s to see if his Dad had arrived there. He hadn’t. So he tried calling home again and couldn’t reach anyone. Jason checked in online for his flight. Finally later that evening, he talked to his Mom and learned that his Dad was STILL in St. Anthony, not St. John’s at all. There weren’t any beds available so they couldn’t move him and they didn’t know when one might become available. Jason would have ended up in St. John’s alone with his parents on the other side of the province. Since his Dad was doing pretty good and there was no definite date for his move to St. John’s, Jason decided to cancel the flight.
The Air Canada web site says “no refunds”! I told Jason to explain the situation to them and see if they might give us a break. Jason called and spoke to a nice woman who agreed to refund his ticket price of $906 to our credit card. They could have been stinkers and just said “No”. We were very happy about that.
So now we wait to hear some news about how Dad is doing. Hopefully it is good news.
